Conductor, musicologist, teacher and composer, Ben Lunn celebrates the culture and history of the region with this new song cycle for voice and brass, exploring notions of identity within the pit communities and the North East of England. Sangs from Hyme explores old and contemporary texts from the North-East; The Whispered Yakka is dedicated to the miners and the pit village and draws upon Paul Summers’ text Arise, written specifically for the Durham Miners’ Gala; and the concluding Symphony For Me Marras places the North-East historically, culturally, and communally as the core basis of the work.
Lotte joins as soloist for two of the works being premiered in tonight’s programme.
