Welcome to the website of Australian vocalist Lotte Betts-Dean.

Lotte is a mezzo soprano whose performance experience encompasses contemporary repertoire, early music, art song, opera, experimental music and non-classical collaborations. She is a vocalist with ensemble x.y and is an Associate Artist with the Southbank Sinfonia.

Lotte is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music (Master of Arts) and the Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University (Bachelor of Music), and an Australian National Academy of Music Fellowship Alumnus.

  • March 2018: A busy month in Australia saw Lotte sing with Song Company in Dean's Hamlet and step in short notice for The Lost and Found Orchestra (both at Adelaide Festival), a solo recital at Melbourne Recital Centre featuring 4 world premieres of new Australian works, and a sold out performance at the hit Melbourne concert series Play On with the Penny Quartet, featuring the Australian premiere of Nico Muhly's So Many Things. Read CutCommon's interview with Nico about this performance and work here.
  • January 2018: Lotte is named as one of the five new  City Music Foundation Artists for 2017. This exclusive London-based program involves one to one business mentoring and a range of workshops, delivered over a 2 year period alongside multiple performance opportunities and development of personalised promotional tools.   • January 2018: ABC Classic FM broadcasts a concert of French Baroque music featuring Lotte with Van Diemen's Band and French harpsichordist Martin Gester. The program featured cantatas by Monteclair and Stuck, and can be streamed here.
  • December 2017: Lotte receives praise in the Australian media for Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Choir of London and Australian Chamber Orchestra. Read the reviews on the media page.
  • November 2017: Lotte joins international DJ and BBC Radio 1 Host Pete Tong for his Australian Ibiza Classics Tour
  • October 2017: Lotte wins the 2017 Southbank Sinfonia Peter Hulsen Orchestral Award and becomes the London orchestra's newest Associate Artist for the coming season. Read her Orchestra profile here.
  • October 2017: Lotte and Joseph Havlat's recital featuring Messiaen's Harawi is broadcast on 3MBS FM's Melbourne in Concert Program, alongside a live interview with presenter Stewart Kelly. 
  • September 2017: Lotte and pianist Hannah Harnest reach the semi finals of the Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation Song Competition
